550 square kilometers Toucans, monkeys, coatis, ocellated turkeys

16 squares kilometers of Tikals center, including temples,

From the town of Sayaxche, found about an hour from
Flores, visitors can explore the archeological site of Ceibal, on
la Pasion River.
The Ceibal archaeological site may be accessed by
either car or a boat trip down river from Sayaxche that takes about
an hour. With a large expanse of protected forest, it is an excellent
place for birdwatching, and also has some unique archaeological
features. One of these is a
circular, Toltec temple that probably served as an astronomical
observatory. and an altar by the circular temple has a jaguar head
and was placed on pedestals shaped like monkeys. Several of Ceibal's
well preserved stelae include Toltec elements, such as square glyphs,
and bone ornaments in the noses of the principal figures.
Leaving at 8:00AM from the Central area of Flores
or Airport. Arriving to Sayaxche at 9:30AM begin the boat ride by
La Pasion River.

Yaxhá
and Topoxté 1 day:
About an hour from Flores, just off the road leading
to Belize, are found Lake Yaxha and the Yaxha and Topoxte archaeological
sites. Yaxha is a large lake surrounded by forest teeming with bird
life, you will have the chance to observe crocodiles, Juribu storks
and Roseate Spoonbills.
Topoxte is the only restored, post-Classic site in
the Peten, with columns and other architectural features similar
to those found at Yucatan sites such as Chichen-Itza and Mayapan.
The Yaxha archaeological site, on the shore of the
lake, was once a Maya city of about 40,000 inhabitants. More than
500 structures, including palaces, temples and ballcourts, have
been found there. Four temples have
been partially restored, including Temple 216, which commands a
fine view of the lake and sorrounding countryside.

Uaxactún 1 Day:
Uaxactun, just 23 kilometers from Tikal, is a forested
ruin with a beautiful observatory, temples and palaces, and many
other structures organized into eigth groups. The temples and observatory
of Group E are arranged to mark points where the sun rises on the
summer and
winter solstices.
A large Temple in Group A offers fine views of the
sorrounding country side. About 600 people live near to the ruins,
and children in the comunity make some beautiful dolls from tusa,
or corn husks.

Arriving to Uaxactun archaeological site, guide visit
to group A, B and E. Guide visit to the Regional Museum.

Lake Peten-Itza, Actun Can
Caves and Petencito Zoo:
Flores, the departamental capital of Petén,
sits on a small island once occupied by the Maya-Itzá, in
Guatemala's second large lake of Peten-Itzá The lake covers
99 square kilometers, and many of Petén's inhabitants
live in small towns around it shores.
Actun Kan cave, found just outside of Santa Elena,
has some lovely natural rock formations, including one that looks
like a marimba. You will be able to visit through the cave, which
is well-lit and quite large. In one domed
chamber, the "Cathedral of time", the Maya are said to
have conducted rituals.
At the Petencito zoological park, you will see and
observe several animals that are native to the area, such as coatis,
spider monkeys. wild pigs, crested guans, jaguars, racoons, cortusas
and deer.

Petexbatún is an enormuos shallow lake about
30 minutes from Sayaxche, full of waterfowl such as herons, ducks
and anhingas. On the far side of the lake, a path leads up a hill,
along a cliff and into a narrow canyon that served as a natural
defense for the Maya city of guateca
built on top. The trail leads into a plaza believed to be the oldest
area of the city, founded in about 200BC. There are several beautiful
stelae, the last dating to 797 AD.
Day 1,

Near to Rio Salinas and about 12 kilometers from the
stream flowing from Petexbatún is the ruin of the Maya city
of Dos Pilas, inhabited from about 600 to 760 AD.
The occupants of Dos Pilas left a rich hieroglyphic
record carved on 16 stelae, 19 altars and four hieroglyphic stairways,
which tell the history of their victory over the city of Ceibal
in 735 AD, and of capturing and killing the king of Tikal.
Petexbatún is an enormuos shallow lake about

reconstructed in 1735, the Municipal building, which dates to 1743,
